Several tax years can need separate attention. Ask for help identifying unpaid amounts, unfinished returns, and IRS requests before comparing possible relief options.
Create a source reference
Choose an identifier that helps you find the document again, such as a folder label or file name you already use. Keep the tax period, document date, and type of record in the index. A source description should explain why the record belongs to the entry without copying sensitive details unnecessarily. If several versions exist, distinguish them and preserve their origin. The aim is a navigable file whose relationships remain understandable after the first sorting session has ended.
Add the unresolved question separately
Give each year an open-question field for anything the documents do not yet explain. Avoid treating the presence of a file as proof of every later account event. Review the gap most relevant to the notice or conversation you are preparing for, then identify which evidence could clarify it. When calling about tax relief, describe the existing reference and the uncertainty together. That gives the discussion an observable starting point rather than requiring someone to infer the question from an unlabelled stack.
